Hi, I'm Lena — the heart behind Afropenda.
And if you're here, welcome. You're part of the family now, too.
How This All Started
For years, I worked in marketing at Lane Bryant — one of the biggest names in plus-size fashion. I understood fit, fabric, and what makes women feel beautiful in their bodies.
But here's what I couldn't understand:
Why couldn't I find clothing that fit MY body, honored MY culture, and spoke to MY faith — all at the same time?
Then 2020 happened. COVID hit. I got laid off.
And instead of scrambling to find another corporate job, I had this moment of clarity:
Why am I helping other brands sell to Black women when NOBODY is creating what WE actually need?
So in 2020, four years ago, I started Afropenda.
Not because I had all the answers. But because I was tired of waiting for someone else to create what we deserve.
What Afropenda Stands For
Afropenda isn't just loungewear. It's a statement.
Every hoodie dress, every design, every scripture affirmation is built on three foundations:
FAITH — Wearable scripture that grounds you in truth
CULTURE — Designs that celebrate who we are, unapologetically
AFFIRMATION — Words that remind you of your worth when the world forgets
We're building a brand FOR us, BY us — not just in marketing speak, but in every design decision.
Because you deserve clothing that makes you feel:
- PROUD to be a Black woman
- SEEN in a world that overlooks you
- COMFORTABLE without compromise
This brand is for women 45-65+ with curves (sizes XS-5XL) who've spent decades showing up for everyone else and are finally ready to show up for THEMSELVES.
A Little More About Me
I'm 45, a size 16, and I live this journey right alongside you.
I know what it's like to walk into stores and feel invisible. I know what it's like to choose between comfortable OR cute, never getting both. I know what it's like to want your faith and culture VISIBLE, not hidden.
That's why every piece we create comes from real experience, real frustration, and real determination to do better.
This brand isn't built in boardrooms or run by corporations.
It's built from love, faith, and a refusal to settle.
And honestly? It's just the beginning.
